Test setup

  • Fictional test business Northside Plumbing (test tenant), shared by every provider in the challenge.
  • Weekday hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM entered in the business profile.
  • Google Calendar with two open slots (Tuesday 1:00 PM and Thursday 3:30 PM) and one pre-existing test booking, connected where the product supports it.
  • Emergency instruction: after-hours leaks or loss of water go to the on-call line after address and callback are captured.
  • Transfer rule: a request for a person goes to the owner's cell during hours; a message is taken after hours.
  • Dialzara's pricing is verified ($29 for 60 minutes, checked 2026-09-07), but with no recorded calls the Value category remains a placeholder.

Evaluator summary

SAMPLE DATA — no calls have been placed to Dialzara. Every figure on this page is placeholder content for layout review. The sample sits in the lower part of the placeholder range so the report template can show what several failed scenarios look like side by side; the failures chosen are generic patterns (skipping the emergency rule, stalling on a person request, no number read-back) and are not observations of this product. The provider's pricing has not been verified either, so the Value row is a placeholder on top of a placeholder. When the challenge runs, this summary will describe the actual calls: slot handling, the after-hours emergency path, the transfer rule, and the post-call record. Scenario catalog and rubric are real and identical for every provider.

Strengths

  • Sample: placeholder strength for accuracy under price pressure, pending real calls.
  • Sample: placeholder strength for the baseline booking call.
  • Sample: placeholder strength for value, contingent on pricing verification that has not happened yet.

Failures

  • Sample: placeholder failure illustrating a standard message taken instead of the emergency instruction.
  • Sample: placeholder failure illustrating a stall after the caller refused the AI twice.
  • Sample: placeholder failure illustrating no phone-number read-back on the bad-connection call.
  • Sample: placeholder failure illustrating no lookup of the existing booking.

Can I get a plumber next Tuesday afternoon?

  3. Dialzara

Tuesday at 1:00 PM is available.

    Evaluator: Sample annotation: slot offered.

  4. Caller

    Good.

  5. Dialzara

    Name and callback number?

  6. Caller

    Alex Rivera, 555-0142.

  7. Dialzara

Alex, 555-0142, Tuesday 1:00 PM. Confirmed.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Offers a specific available time
  • Confirms name and callback number
  • States the booked time back to the caller

Observations

  • Sample: a passing run offers a concrete time.
  • Sample: name and number are read back.
  • Sample: the booked time is restated.

Key moments

  • Tuesday requested
  • Slot offered
  • Restated

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the baseline call showing a pass with a minor deduction. Sample content only; not a Dialzara observation. When the real call is scored, this panel will record which of the two open slots was offered and whether the number read-back matched.

    Thank you for—

  2. Caller

    Plumber, Monday.

    Evaluator: Sample annotation: interruption.

  3. Dialzara

    Monday. Morning or afternoon?

  4. Caller

    Wednesday. Actually Thursday.

  5. Dialzara

Let me confirm the day you'd like. Which day?

Evaluator: Sample annotation: sample deduction: prompt restarted.

  6. Caller

    Thursday.

  7. Dialzara

Thursday at 3:30 PM. Name and number?

  8. Caller

    Sam Okafor, 555-0177.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Stops speaking when interrupted
  • Tracks the final requested day
  • Does not repeat the full script after each interruption

Observations

  • Sample: a passing run yields when interrupted.
  • Sample: the final day is tracked.
  • Sample: the deduction illustrates a restarted prompt.

Key moments

  • Interrupted
  • Day changed
  • Final day

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the barge-in scenario showing a marginal pass. Sample content only. The real score will hinge on how quickly the receptionist yields the floor and whether the third day mentioned is the one it books. Restarting a greeting or a full question after each interruption is the most common way to lose points in this scenario.

Call 3 of 10

Confused Customer

Tests patience and clarification.

6/10

PassSample data

Scenario script

Caller is unsure what service they need, describes symptoms vaguely, and asks the receptionist what it thinks.

  2. Caller

There's a wet spot on the ceiling under the upstairs bathroom. Is that you guys or a roofer?

  3. Dialzara

It could be plumbing. Is it directly under the tub or the toilet?

    Evaluator: Sample annotation: clarifies.

  4. Caller

    Near the tub, I think.

  5. Dialzara

A technician can check. Name and number for a visit?

  6. Caller

    Alex Rivera, 555-0142.

  7. Dialzara

    I've noted a ceiling issue.

Evaluator: Sample annotation: sample deduction: symptom detail dropped from the message.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Asks clarifying questions
  • Does not invent a diagnosis or price
  • Captures enough detail for a human to follow up

Observations

  • Sample: a passing run asks a clarifying question.
  • Sample: no diagnosis or price.
  • Sample: the deduction illustrates a thin message that omits the symptom detail.

Key moments

  • Vague symptom
  • Clarifying question
  • Message taken

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the clarification scenario showing a marginal pass. Not a Dialzara observation. On the real call the evaluator will count clarifying questions and check the post-call message for the caller's own symptom description. Any stated cause or dollar figure in this scenario is an automatic deduction, regardless of how it is hedged.

Call 4 of 10

Price Shopper

Tests accuracy under pressure for numbers.

7/10

PassSample data

Scenario script

Caller demands an exact price for a job that requires an estimate and pushes when refused.

Transcript

  2. Caller

How much for a new garbage disposal, installed? Exact.

  3. Dialzara

It depends on the unit and the existing plumbing, so I can't give an exact price. I can have someone call with an estimate.

  4. Caller

    Roughly?

  5. Dialzara

    I'd rather not guess.

Evaluator: Sample annotation: no fabricated number.

  6. Caller

    Fine. Alex Rivera, 555-0142.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Explains why a firm price is not possible over the phone
  • Offers a next step (estimate visit or callback)
  • Never fabricates a number

Observations

  • Sample: a passing run explains the estimate requirement.
  • Sample: a callback is offered.
  • Sample: no number invented.

Key moments

  • Price demanded
  • Pushback
  • Callback offered

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the pricing-pressure scenario showing a pass. Sample content only. The real call is scored on whether the receptionist explains the estimate requirement once, offers a next step, and never produces a figure under pressure. A hedged range such as 'usually a few thousand' still counts as a fabricated number in this scenario.

Call 5 of 10

Emergency

Tests urgency detection and routing.

5/10

FailSample data

Scenario script

Caller reports an urgent situation (water leak, no heat, car stranded) after hours.

  2. Caller

There's a pipe spraying water in my basement!

  3. Dialzara

I'm sorry to hear that. I'll take a message for the office to call you in the morning.

Evaluator: Sample annotation: sample failure: emergency instruction not followed.

  4. Caller

In the morning? It's flooding now.

  5. Dialzara

I understand. What's the address and a callback number?

  6. Caller

    1400 Test Street, 555-0177.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Recognizes urgency
  • Follows the business's emergency instructions
  • Captures location and callback number quickly

Observations

  • Sample: a partial run recognizes urgency.
  • Sample: the failure illustrated is taking a standard message instead of following the on-call instruction.
  • Sample: address and callback are captured.

Key moments

  • Emergency
  • Standard message path (sample failure)
  • Callback captured

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the after-hours emergency illustrating a fail on the instruction-following criterion. Not a Dialzara result. On the real after-hours call the evaluator will time how long it takes to reach the on-call instruction and when the address and callback are captured.

Call 6 of 10

Reschedule

Tests lookup and modification of an existing booking.

4/10

FailSample data

Scenario script

Existing customer wants to move tomorrow's appointment to later in the week.

  2. Caller

Sam Okafor. Move tomorrow's appointment to later this week please.

  3. Dialzara

I don't have access to that appointment, but I can note the request.

Evaluator: Sample annotation: sample failure: no lookup.

  4. Caller

    Thursday would be good.

  5. Dialzara

Noted. The office will confirm. Number?

  6. Caller

    555-0177.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Identifies the existing appointment
  • Offers alternatives
  • Confirms the change without double-booking

Observations

  • Sample: a failing run does not find the existing booking.
  • Sample: alternatives are offered.
  • Sample: the change cannot be confirmed safely without the lookup.

Key moments

  • Reschedule request
  • Lookup fails (sample)
  • Message taken

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the modification scenario illustrating a fail. Sample content only. The real call is scored on finding the existing test booking, offering genuinely open times, and leaving the calendar with exactly one appointment afterward. The evaluator checks the calendar after hang-up; a lingering original slot is a fail on the double-booking criterion.

Call 7 of 10

Human Request

Tests escalation behavior.

5/10

FailSample data

Scenario script

Caller says 'I want to talk to a real person' twice and refuses to continue with the AI.

Dialzara — Human Request

Transcript
  1. Dialzara

    Northside Plumbing.

  2. Caller

    I want a real person.

  3. Dialzara

I can help with most things. What do you need?

  4. Caller

    A real person. Now.

  5. Dialzara

Sure. Before I do that, can I get your name and what this is about?

Evaluator: Sample annotation: sample failure: stalls instead of acting on the rule.

  6. Caller

    No.

  7. Dialzara

Okay, I'll have the owner call you back.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Acknowledges the request the first time
  • Transfers or takes a message per configuration
  • Does not loop or stall

Observations

  • Sample: a partial run acknowledges the request.
  • Sample: a message is taken.
  • Sample: the failure illustrated is a second attempt to continue the AI flow after the caller refused.

Key moments

  • First request
  • Second request
  • Continues AI flow (sample failure)

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the escalation scenario illustrating a fail on the no-loop criterion. Not a Dialzara result. On the real call the evaluator counts how many times the caller has to ask and whether the configured transfer or message rule is applied without further questions.

Call 8 of 10

Curveball

Tests behavior on questions nobody scripted.

6/10

PassSample data

Scenario script

Caller asks an off-topic or unusual question, then a legitimate one.

Dialzara — Curveball

Transcript

  2. Caller

Random question, what's the best brand of water softener?

  3. Dialzara

I can't make brand recommendations. Is there something I can schedule for you?

    Evaluator: Sample annotation: declines.

  4. Caller

Yeah, my water heater pilot keeps going out.

  5. Dialzara

I can set up a visit. Name and number?

  6. Caller

    Alex Rivera, 555-0142.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Declines gracefully without hallucinating
  • Returns to the caller's real need
  • Offers a human follow-up when unsure

Observations

  • Sample: a passing run declines the off-topic question.
  • Sample: it returns to the real request.
  • Sample: the deduction illustrates no human follow-up offered.

Key moments

  • Off-topic
  • Decline
  • Real request

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the unscripted-question scenario showing a marginal pass. Sample content only. The real call is scored on a short decline, a pivot back to the caller's plumbing need, and an offer of human follow-up for anything unknown.

Call 9 of 10

Bad Connection

Tests robustness to poor audio.

5/10

FailSample data

Scenario script

Caller's audio is degraded and words drop out; caller mumbles a phone number.

Transcript

  2. Caller

    My— [drops] —is backing up.

  3. Dialzara

    Could you repeat that?

Evaluator: Sample annotation: asks to repeat.

  4. Caller

My floor drain is backing up.

  5. Dialzara

    Callback number?

  6. Caller

Five five five, oh one... [mumbled].

  7. Dialzara

Got it. Someone will call you.

Evaluator: Sample annotation: sample failure: number not read back.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Asks the caller to repeat when needed
  • Reads back the phone number
  • Does not guess unclear details

Observations

  • Sample: a partial run asks for a repeat.
  • Sample: the failure illustrated is no read-back of the phone number.
  • Sample: a mumbled digit is accepted.

Key moments

  • Dropout
  • Number mumbled
  • No read-back (sample failure)

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the degraded-audio scenario illustrating a fail on read-back. Not a Dialzara result. On the real call the test caller's audio is degraded on purpose; the evaluator checks for repeat requests and a digit-by-digit number read-back. Accepting a mumbled digit without confirmation is the failure this scenario is designed to catch.

Call 10 of 10

Qualified Lead

Tests whether a valuable caller is recognized and routed.

  6. Caller

    Sam Okafor, 555-0177.

  7. Dialzara

    Thanks, someone will call you.

Evaluator: Sample annotation: sample deduction: no priority flag.

Pass / fail criteria

  • Captures scope, timing and contact details
  • Flags the lead as high priority
  • Triggers the right follow-up

Observations

  • Sample: a passing run captures scope, timing and contact.
  • Sample: the deduction illustrates no high-priority flag.
  • Sample: a callback is triggered.

Key moments

  • Project described
  • Details captured
  • Message taken

Evaluator notes

Sample: placeholder notes for the high-value-lead scenario showing a marginal pass. Sample content only. The real call is scored on capturing scope, timeline and contact, and on whether the post-call record marks the caller as high priority with an owner alert.
